Personal Experience = Business Inspiration

Richard’s personal experience was his most valuable business inspiration

I needed lower back surgery, L-3, L-4 and L-5 to be specific. We all have friends and colleagues with back issues and a good percentage of them don’t have the desired results from that surgery, but my prognosis and attitude was positive, and I was living a severe physical issue – debilitating pain with a loss of mobility. At the time, I never dreamed this experience would lead to my quest to help improve the world with our company, Green Cleaning Technologies.

This next statement may sound petty, but my most significant memory of the nine-month journey through scheduling, recovery and healing was the pre-surgery examination and blood work at the local hospital where the surgery would be performed. I had been diagnosed with Lupus a decade earlier and that disease as well as my back problems was the result of a 42 car pileup due to a jack-knifed tractor trailer on what is commonly known as black ice in a mid-March storm near Buffalo, NY. We were in vehicle number 37. Enough about that as we all have personal experiences.

It was a cold January day and I was sitting in this hospital waiting room with about 20 other people. I was pretty healthy at the time except for the back issues and I remember being really excited to get the surgery behind me to end more than five years of numbness and suffering, including some mental fog from the use of prescribed pain medications.

My memory? At least a dozen of my waiting room mates were coughing, sneezing, wheezing, hacking. After all, it was some H-number flu season plus all the other germs floating in the air. For almost 60 minutes, I was mentally frozen at the possibility I would never get into surgery the next week, as I would be infected with the flu and not able to go under anesthesia.

True story. I remember when I looked at the furniture in this waiting room… fabric upholstered chairs with wide plastic armrests… WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME THIS FURNITURE WAS DISINFECTED OR EVEN CLEANED? Need I mention the available technology at this time was alcohol-based hand sanitizers that are only effective for 15 seconds (while they dry out your skin). I did not understand this back then, and some still believe this is state-of-the-art today. Really, 15 seconds!

It is personal experiences like this that affect and inspire who we are, what we know and how we deal with illness, pain and life. Why are we so excited today to introduce tested and proven technologies like our SafeScience 24 hour antiseptic hand sanitizer, GermFree 24 XPD? This provides “Extended Protection Disinfecting” on your hands with a non-chemical quartz disinfecting molecule for up to 24 hours. FDA approved.

Why am I equally delighted to introduce our 7/30/90 day GermShield XPD (EPA Approved) that would have extended the protection on those hospital elevator buttons and the waiting room arm rests to seven days and the fabric upholstery to 90 days? I am delighted because we can now help people w/all-natural, safe, effective & tested solutions, including getting people through that surgery that can improve their lives and the lives of their friends and families.

At the time of my back surgery, I don’t remember HAI’s (Hospital Acquired Infections), Antibiotic Resistance and Food Illnesses being in the news like it is today. With our SafeScience integrated technology portfolio, we can reduce all of these issues, from daycare centers to schools, sports facilities to restaurants and from the waiting room to the operating room. And, don’t forget your home.

Ten years later, I am thrilled to report my back surgery is still 120% successful and I am privileged to help serve America with experience, technology and products to help all of us be “Proactive versus Reactive” in our personal environments and for better health. Hand Washing VS Sickness

Hand hygiene’s newest technology is “Step One” in the Green Cleaning Technologies’ disinfecting protocol

According to the CDC, approximately 80% of infectious diseases are transmitted by touch. 80 percent! In fact, the CDC recommends hand hygiene as one of the most important steps to avoid getting sick and spreading germs to others. Results from a Wakefield Research Survey showed that of those who didn’t get sick last winter-germ season, the majority of them, 67 percent, said “hand hygiene” is the reason why.

The survey conducted by Wakefield Research of Washington DC reveals some startling facts about how Americans handle illness during the winter germ season:
1.  Sixty-nine percent of working Americans don’t take sick days because they don’t want to miss a day of work, even if they’re actually sick
2.  Sixty-two percent of working Americans have gone to work sick
3.  Nearly 3 in 4 parents have sent their children to school sick
4.  Sixty percent of those surveyed saw their co-worker sneeze without using a tissue.

This survey highlights that hand hygiene must be practiced far more thoroughly and regularly – whether it’s at home, in the office, at the gym or on the go. Most people realize the fastest transmission of disease is from contaminated hands when you touch your eyes, followed by casual transmission when you are snacking or eating.

Keeping your hands clean is a multi-faceted, all day long process starting with washing with soap and water. The first, best step in the morning before you leave the house? Apply SafeScience® GermFree24 XP from Green Cleaning Technologies, LLC (GCT) of Syracuse, NY. This non-chemical hand sanitizer is FDA Approved “to persistently kill 99.99% of germs for up to 24 hours.” Microscopic silicon “SPEARS” as described by GCT President, Richard Kampas, “stick to your hands all day to silently disinfect virus, bacteria, fungi and protozoa, and it even sticks when you wash your hands and wear gloves for up to 24 hours. You only need to apply this product once a day, although multiple applications can be useful and will cause no harm.”

“Most people do not realize the alcohol-based hand sanitizers keep your hands disinfected for 10 or 15 seconds and the next object you touch re-infects you with, whatever, even from your cell phone. The SafeScience® GermFree24 XP gives you “Extended Protection” that lasts all day long.”

Kampas encourages washing your hands frequently, during the day, to remove any dirt or grease build up for best efficacy of their product. This “spear” molecule is also sold in a surface-disinfecting product from www.SafeScienceTV.com that lasts on average 30 days. It is perfect for kitchens, bathrooms, athletic equipment, elevator buttons, medical facilities and much more.

Infecting Wipes?

Have you ever read the label on the back of your “disinfecting” wipes container? If you’re like most people, the answer is probably no. If you had read it, you probably would be quite startled to see all the hazards as well as how you actually need to use them for it to be effective. Long story short, the way the majority of people you them is actually doing more harm than good.

Any disinfectant needs a certain dwell time or “wet” time for it to kill the offending germ. Depending  on the microbe, it can be anywhere from a few seconds up to around 10 minutes. If you think grabbing a wipe and moving it across the surface amounts to disinfecting it, you are in for a rude awakening. At best you are moving the organism from one area to another. At worst, you are contributing to helping the microbe develop resistance to the disinfectant. This incomplete kill, combined with decades of over-prescribing antibiotics has put us as a society in very real danger of facing new & deadly superbugs. It has reared it’s ugly head in the form of hospital acquired infections (HAIs) such as MRSA, c.diff, VRE & CRE to name a few. Take a look at our video regarding the real scoop on wipes.
